Würzburg Residence

The Würzburg Residence was built from 1720 to 1780 for the prince-bishops of Würzburg, designed by Balthasar Neumann. Its staircase hall carries a ceiling fresco by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo from 1752-53, among the largest in the world. More than 40 rooms are open to visitors, with the Hofkirche court chapel and Baroque Hofgarten. UNESCO listed it in 1981.
