Akureyrarkirkja is the Lutheran church of Akureyri, standing on a hill above the town centre. Designed by Guðjón Samúelsson and completed in 1940, it has two stepped towers, a 3,200-pipe organ, reliefs by Ásmundur Sveinsson on the nave balcony and an altarpiece from 1863 by Edvard Lehmann.

botanical garden · Akureyri The Akureyri Botanical Garden (Lystigarður Akureyrar) lies on the hillside south of the town centre, about 85 km south of the Arctic Circle. The public park opened in 1912 and the botanical garden in 1957; its 3.7 hectares hold lawns, flower beds, a pond and plant collections that include around 400 Icelandic species.
