Almería Air Raid Shelters

The Almería air raid shelters are a network of tunnels dug in 1937 and 1938, during the Spanish Civil War, to protect about 40,000 civilians from bombing. Designed by the municipal architect Guillermo Langle, they run for more than 4 km under the city. A restored gallery of almost 1 km under the Paseo de Almería, with a recreated operating theatre, is visited on guided tours.
