religious building · Batalha Batalha Monastery, officially the Monastery of Saint Mary of the Victory, is a Dominican convent built from 1386 to about 1517 to mark the Portuguese victory at Aljubarrota in 1385. Its Late Gothic and Manueline church holds the Founder's Chapel with the tombs of the House of Aviz, and the octagonal Unfinished Chapels were never completed.

religious building · Fátima The Sanctuary of Fátima is a Catholic shrine in Cova da Iria, where three shepherd children said they saw the Virgin Mary in 1917. Around its large esplanade stand the small Chapel of the Apparitions, begun in 1919, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary with its 65-metre tower, dedicated in 1953, and the larger Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity.
