Herschel Museum of Astronomy

The Herschel Museum of Astronomy occupies 19 New King Street in Bath, the Georgian town house where William Herschel and his sister Caroline lived from 1777. In March 1781 Herschel discovered the planet Uranus here with a telescope he built in the house's workshop. Opened in 1981, the museum shows period rooms, the workshop and a replica of the telescope.
