Cairo Opera House

The Cairo Opera House, part of the National Cultural Centre, stands on Gezira Island in the Nile. Built with Japanese aid and opened in 1988, it replaced the Khedivial Opera House, which burned down in 1971, and its design draws on Islamic architecture. Its halls host opera, ballet, symphony concerts and Arabic music.
