Esztergom Castle

Esztergom Castle was the seat of Hungary's kings from the 10th century until Béla IV moved the royal court to Buda in the 13th century; Stephen I, Hungary's first king, is thought to have been born in its palace around 969-975. Excavated from 1934, it now displays medieval stonework, frescoes and royal chambers as a museum.
