The Avenue of Sphinxes is the 2.7 km processional way that linked Karnak with Luxor Temple in ancient Thebes and was used for the Opet Festival. Most of its sphinxes date from Nectanebo I in the 4th century BC; after decades of excavation it reopened in 2021 as a walkway lined with sphinx and ram statues.

The Colossi of Memnon are two seated stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III on Luxor's west bank, about 18 metres high and carved around 1350 BC. They once stood at the entrance to his mortuary temple, of which little survives above ground. Greek and Roman visitors left more than 100 inscriptions on them.
