The Cabildo

The Cabildo on Jackson Square was built in 1795-1799 as the seat of the Spanish colonial city council. The formal transfer of the Louisiana Purchase took place here in 1803. Today it is part of the Louisiana State Museum, with exhibitions on the history of Louisiana from colonial times to Reconstruction.
