Mercer Williams House

The Mercer Williams House is an Italianate brick mansion on Monterey Square, begun for General Hugh Mercer, great-grandfather of the songwriter Johnny Mercer, and completed in 1868. The antiques dealer Jim Williams restored it from 1969, and a killing in the house in 1981 became the subject of the book and film Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Tours show the ground-floor rooms.
