About Savannah
Savannah is a port city in Georgia on the Savannah River, with a historic district of squares, live oaks and 19th-century houses. River Street runs below the bluff past cotton warehouses now used as shops and restaurants, and the City Market holds the American Prohibition Museum. On the squares stand the Davenport House, the Mercer Williams House, Congregation Mickve Israel and the Telfair Academy, with the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist nearby. Forsyth Park, with its cast-iron fountain, closes the district to the south. Outside the centre lie Bonaventure Cemetery, Wormsloe State Historic Site and Fort Pulaski National Monument. Two days cover the main sights.
