The Cathedral of Saint Domnius occupies the octagonal mausoleum that Diocletian built for himself inside his palace, converted into a church in the 7th century. Inside are red granite columns, a Roman frieze and walnut doors carved by Andrija Buvina in 1214; the 57-metre bell tower, begun in the 13th century, rises beside it over the Peristyle.
