About Hiroshima
Hiroshima is a city on the Seto Inland Sea, rebuilt after the atomic bombing of 6 August 1945, with the island of Miyajima nearby. The Peace Memorial Park lies near the hypocentre: the ruined Atomic Bomb Dome stands on the riverbank, and the Peace Memorial Museum documents the bombing and its victims. Hiroshima Castle, now closed inside, rises over its moats, and Shukkei-en is a landscaped garden with a pond and tea houses. Ferries from Miyajimaguchi cross to Miyajima, where Itsukushima Shrine and its torii stand in the tide, Daishō-in rises above the town and a ropeway climbs Mount Misen. Two days cover the city and the island.
