Piazza della Cisterna

Piazza della Cisterna is a sloping triangular square in the centre of San Gimignano, paved in brick and named after the underground cistern of 1287, capped by an octagonal travertine well-head added in 1346. Medieval houses and towers surround it, among them the Torre del Diavolo and the twin Ardinghelli towers, and a passage leads to Piazza del Duomo.
