Diocletian's Palace

Diocletian's Palace is the Roman palace and fortress that the emperor Diocletian had built on the shore at Split for his retirement in 305 AD. Its walls, gates, the Peristyle square and the vaulted substructures now form about half of the old town, with streets, homes, shops and cafés inside; it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.
