Statue of Gregory of Nin

The bronze statue of Gregory of Nin, a 10th-century bishop remembered for defending the Croatian language in church services, is the work of Ivan Meštrović. Erected in 1929 in the Peristyle, it was removed during the Second World War and set up again in 1954 outside the Golden Gate of Diocletian's Palace, where visitors rub its polished big toe for luck.
