Grey's Monument

Grey's Monument is a 41-metre column at the junction of Grey, Grainger and Blackett Streets in central Newcastle upon Tyne. Built in 1838 by public subscription, it honours Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey, Prime Minister from 1830 to 1834, and the Reform Act of 1832. A statue of Grey by Edward Hodges Baily stands on a Roman Doric column designed by Benjamin Green.
