Deir el-Medina

Deir el-Medina is the village of the craftsmen who cut and decorated the royal tombs of the New Kingdom, on Luxor's west bank, occupied from about 1550 to 1080 BC. Visitors see the stone foundations of some 70 houses, painted tombs of the workers in the hillside and a small Ptolemaic temple of Hathor.
